Our Nursing Team

NKC Health is proud to be a Magnet®-designated hospital, the highest national honor for nursing excellence granted by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. We’re the only Magnet hospital in the Northland and just one of five in greater Kansas City.

This recognition reveals our deep commitment to nursing leadership, collaboration and continuous learning. At NKC Health, nurses are empowered through shared governance, professional development and a culture that values innovation, research and shared accountability in patient care.

Our nurse residency program

Our year-long Nurse Residency Program is recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as an accredited Practice Transition Program. It is designed to help new RNs build the confidence, skills and clinical judgment needed to thrive in their nursing careers.

Throughout the program, new nurses are supported by nursing directors, clinical education specialists, preceptors and mentors.

Our care delivery system

Our patient- and family-centered approach is built on four principles:

  • Dignity and respect
  • Sharing Information
  • Participation
  • Collaboration

This approach informs how we provide care, ensuring patients, families and clinicians work together as partners. Our commitment also helps strengthen a positive workplace culture, where nurses are recognized and celebrated. Programs such as the DAISY Award honor exceptional clinical skill and compassionate care, reinforcing the impact nurses make every day.

Our professional practice model

Our professional practice model (PPM) defines how nurses at NKC Health deliver exceptional care. It exhibits today’s best practices and shows how we practice, collaborate, communicate, grow professionally and uphold the highest standards, all in service of our patients.

Shared governance

At NKC Health, shared governance gives nurses a meaningful voice in shaping their practice. This collaborative model brings together staff and leaders to make decisions that improve quality, safety, patient experience and work-life balance. Here, nurses take active ownership of initiatives that impact care, professional growth and team culture.

Global councils are the heart of our model, supported by the leadership council, nurse leaders and frontline staff, all working together to elevate nursing practice and outcomes.
